Retreat Guidelines:
To receive the maximum benefit from the practice of Mahasati Meditation, we recommend that you adhere to the following guidelines while at the retreat:1. Practice only Mahasati Meditation as you have learned it at the retreat. Do not mix it with other forms of meditation or body awareness. After the retreat, you can always return to another practice if you choose. 2. Try to keep awareness during all activities, including meals. 3. Observe silence as much as possible. When it is necessary to speak, please speak softly. Try to observe yourself continously. 4. Respect the schedule and gather together promptly after all breaks. 5. Direct all questions to the teacher only so that there will be less chance for confusion. In this way, you can be assured that you will have a clear and true answer to your question. 6. Do not write or read (not even books about meditation) during the retreat. 7. Please do not smoke at any time during the retreat. 8. Try not to sleep during the day. If you are sleepy, apply the various techniques to combat drowsiness. 9. Avoid making telephone calls during the retreat. Try to take care of all obligations before the retreat so you will be free to apply yourself to the practice.
